Test and Refine: The Landing Page Checklist

Before you share your landing page with anyone, run it through this checklist.

This is not a design preference check. This is a conversion check. Every item here has a direct impact on whether people take action or leave.

The pre-launch checklist

Go through each item. Fix anything that is not right before sharing the URL.

Offer clarity

Can you understand the offer in 5 seconds without scrolling?

Open the page in a new window. Look at it for 5 seconds and close it. What did you understand? If the answer is not "I understood exactly what they are offering and who it is for" then the hero needs work.

Ask Claude:

  • Read the hero section of my landing page. Without scrolling a visitor should
  • immediately understand what is being offered, who it is for, and what they
  • need to do to get it. Rewrite the hero section so all three are completely
  • clear in under 5 seconds of reading.

CTA consistency

Does the page have only one type of CTA action?

Click every button and link on the page. They should all do the same thing. If any link goes to a different page, a social profile, or triggers a different action, remove it.

Is the CTA button text specific and action-focused?

"Submit" and "Click here" do not convert. "Get My Free Guide" and "Start Building Today" do.

Correct: "Get the Free Checklist Now."

Wrong: "Submit," "Send," "Click Here," or "Learn More."

Form function

Does the form submit correctly?

Test it yourself. Fill in a fake name and your own email address. Click submit. Do you land on the thank-you page? Did you receive the submission notification in your inbox?

Is the form visible or at least beginning to appear on the first screen on mobile?

On a phone screen the first thing the user sees should include a CTA button or show the beginning of the form without requiring any scrolling.

Is there a trust line under the form?

"No spam. Unsubscribe any time." One line, small text, directly under the submit button. Every form needs this.

Copy quality

Does the problem section make you feel understood?

Read the problem section as if you are the target visitor. Do you think "yes, this is exactly how I feel"? If it feels generic the copy needs more specificity.

Are benefits written as outcomes and not features?

Read each benefit statement. Does it describe a result the reader gets or just a thing about the offer?

Wrong: "Includes a 30-page workbook."

Right: "A 30-page workbook that walks you through the exact steps with no guesswork and no searching."

Is the language simple?

If any sentence requires reading twice to understand, simplify it. Landing page copy should be readable at a relaxed pace instantly. If you have to work to understand it, the visitor will not bother.

Mobile experience

Is every section readable and usable on a phone?

Switch Chrome to mobile view using Ctrl+Shift+M on Windows or Cmd+Option+M on Mac. Scroll through the entire page and check four things: no text overflowing or cutting off, no buttons too small to tap comfortably, no sections where elements crowd together, and the form fields are easy to fill in with a thumb.

Design quality

Is the CTA button the most visually prominent element on the page?

Step back and look at the full page. Your eye should land on the CTA button first, or on the headline which should then immediately lead the eye to the button.

Are sections consistent in spacing and design?

Does every section feel like part of the same page? No random background colours that were not planned. No sections that feel significantly wider or narrower than the rest.

Is there no vibe-coded pattern visible anywhere?

No purple or blue gradients. No glassmorphism. No generic icon cards. The design should feel intentional throughout.

The fast refinement loop

For anything that fails the checklist, describe the problem and send it to Claude:

[DESCRIBE WHAT IS WRONG]
[DESCRIBE WHAT IT SHOULD LOOK LIKE INSTEAD]

Fix only this one thing and do not change anything else on the page.

One change at a time. Confirm each fix before moving to the next. This prevents Claude from making changes you did not ask for.

The fresh eyes test

After you have gone through the checklist, send the URL to one person you trust who is in your target audience.

Tell them: "Look at this page for 10 seconds and tell me what you think I am offering."

Their answer reveals what is actually communicating on your page. If their answer matches what you intended you have a clear page. If it does not match you know exactly what to fix.

You do not need expensive user testing. One honest person looking at it fresh tells you more than ten checklists ever will.

Your action right now

Go through each item in the checklist against your live page. Fix anything that fails using a clear specific refinement prompt in Claude.

When every item passes you are ready. Share the URL. Drive traffic. Collect leads.
