Course 02 · Lesson 1 of 10
The Memory System: What This Course Changes
Right now, every time you start a new Claude Code session, Claude does not know who you are.
It does not know your name. It does not know what you are building. It does not know that you prefer simple, clean code. It does not know that last week you spent two hours fixing a problem Claude caused by adding something you never asked for.
Every session starts from zero. And that costs you time, every single time.
This course fixes that permanently.
What you will learn
By the end of this course, Claude will know your preferences before you type a single word.
Here is exactly what we cover:
- Why Claude forgets you between sessions and the file that solves this.
- What CLAUDE.md is and how Claude reads it automatically at the start of every session.
- The two levels of memory: your global preferences that apply everywhere, and your project-specific context that applies to one build.
How to generate your first CLAUDE.md using the /init command. Note: /init works best when you already have files in your project folder. For a brand new empty folder it will produce a minimal file, which is fine. You will build it out in the lessons that follow.
What to put in your CLAUDE.md and the six sections that give Claude everything it needs to work the way you want.
How to grow your CLAUDE.md over time without overthinking it.
Sub-agents: Claude Code's specialist system for handling bigger, more complex projects.
What you will build
A CLAUDE.md file for your projects. After this course, every new session with Claude Code starts with Claude already briefed on you, your project, and exactly how you like to work.
One rule for this course
Apply as you go. Do not read everything and then come back to implement later. Each lesson has one action. Do it before moving to the next lesson.
That is what makes the difference between people who remember this and people who forget it by next week.
