Course 04 · Lesson 8 of 8
Homework: Automations
You know how to build automations now build the ones that will actually change how you work
Your Assignment
Complete all three parts. Each one builds on the last and the third requires all three working together.
Part 1: Build Your Core Stack
Your ~/.claude/commands/ folder must have these four commands saved and tested.
/morning-brief from the morning brief lesson. /content-batch from the content batch lesson which requires MARKETING.md. /kickoff from the project kickoff lesson. And one custom command you designed yourself for a task specific to your own work.
For each one save the file, run it once, and confirm it produces useful output before moving on.
Part 2: Set Up the End-of-Session Rule
Add this to your global ~/.claude/CLAUDE.md:
## End of Session
At the end of every working session, update or create progress.md in the current
project with:
- What was done this session (specific, not vague)
- Any decisions made and why
- What to do first next session
Do this before confirming the session is complete.
Then end a real working session and let Claude write the progress notes. Open the progress.md file. Is it accurate and useful? If it is too vague adjust the end-of-session rule to be more specific about what level of detail you want.
Part 3: Run the Full Stack for One Week
For seven consecutive working days follow this routine.
Start each working day with /morning-brief. At the end of each session confirm Claude wrote to progress.md. On day seven run /weekly-review.
After the week read your full progress.md for that project. Is it a useful record of what happened? What is missing? What would you add to make it more useful next week?
Post in the Community
Create a post titled "Automations Homework." Share two things.
Your most useful custom slash command pasted as the full markdown file. And one thing the morning brief or weekly review surfaced that you would have missed without it.
Other members reading your command files is one of the fastest ways this community teaches itself. The collective commands folder that this community builds together is more valuable than any single automation.
You Are Ready for Course 09
With automations running in the background you are ready to build AI agents: systems that handle entire categories of work with minimal input, running multi-step tasks that no single prompt could complete.
Do it with other builders
Post your homework. Get unstuck.
Every course ends with homework. Post yours in Claude Codex Mastery, the community this course comes from, and get feedback from Yar and 400+ people building the same way.
